I have tried to connect an Ethernet cat 6 to my AirPort Extreme and back to a new DVR surveillance system when talking to the support guy he said that the cat 6 needed to be connected to the modem directly. Seems like I need to buy a modem combo or is there a work around
Did not want to Peres the point with the support guy as I am not that tech savvy

OK, am guessing (but with lots of education :)) that you want to surveil from the Internet. If I am correct the surveillance system's manual should tell you exactly what to do.

Tech support (not very competent) tell you to hook up to modem directly because that way you can "see" the camera directly anywhere from the Internet wo further complication, but people don't hook anything up DIRECTLY to the Internet, that would be dangerous, you will have no FIREWALL between the Internet and your inside devices.

Your Airport acts as the firewall, and in order for the Internet to be able to access the camera you need to open a port, or ports in the Airport, this is commonly called port forwarding, and again, the Surveillance system's manual...
