Attempting to set up a NAS. 6 days of finiggling with this modem and 3 calls to WOW before I was told the usb port is not active. I'll try the ethernet connect but ... I would like to win this one and activate that port if possible. Anyone know how or if its possible?

Your only option would be to see if there is alternate firmware for the router portion. The firmware on the modem is controlled by your ISP. The two parts may not be separable. This is one reason a combo unit like that is less desirable than two physical devices.

the ipconfig is "not recognized" but if i run the ipv4 number, the port tries to activate ... it shows up but any command or page movement deletes it ... and this is all new to me so bear with me in my ignorance ...

not sure how one can set the USB in the network without the ip address
The USB would be accessible via the router's IP address if it were usable. All the manuals I have found, even the one submitted to the FCC show the USB as "future support for external USB devices". That means, to me, that the software required for the USB is NOT part of the software loaded on the router.
Without the necessary drivers and sharing software loaded into the router firmware that port is just for decoration.

Even when they work using a router as a nas tend to be rather slow. The cpu is on a router is tiny.
People use raspberry pi to do this but the cheap ones also are very small cpu.

Maybe look for a junk laptop, you can get some with broken screens but they still connect to external monitor for very cheap.

Well its not what I was hoping for, but it is what it is. I guess I'll take a different route maybe through the ethernet ports. Thanks everyone.
