Artifacts due to gpu or could it be something else?

Hey guys,

I've been seeing artifacts lately (on my screen! not in real life!) and I was told that this is most likely a sign of a dying GPU.

I recently cleaned the GPU of dust, as temperature could be another reason, but alas, it still happens.

I was suggested to look into the 1050 Ti, as all I play is Final Fantasy XIV.

My question:
Before i spend around 220-250 CAD on a new GPU, is there anything else that could be causing it?

The reason I ask is because my current GPU can handle FFXIV just fine, so I would hate to upgrade and then learn something else was causing it!

Specs:
msi gtx 580 twin frozr iii lightning
asus p8p67 pro rev 3.1
i5-2500k
Corsair AX1200
8gb
2x Kingston Hyper X 4gb

I build this system in 2011.

Thanks!

edit:

I've been able to run FurMark with no issues at all >_>

Solution
Upgrading from a 580 GTX is a good investment. You can try another monitor but i think that 580 had a good life

He can upgrade any time but the question is can he fix this maybe before doing that.

To OP:
Try older drivers as it can be driver issue.
If it isn't try other cable and monitor and plug GPU in friend's PC to see if it works there.
I would try above things just to rule it out before spending money.
I wish you good luck :)

Thanks!

I know that the upgrade would be worth it from a gaming perspective. But like I mentioned: I dont play anything but FFXIV. I wouldnt even know what new games are out there. So if the GPU isn't what's causing the artifacts, I prefer fixing the component that is.

I doubt it's my PSU. I believe CPU's dont cause artifacts (please correct me if I'm wrong). Could it be my mobo or ram?

Thanks for the quick reply!

Thanks! I haven't tried different cables or monitors yet so will do that!
Question though, and I should have mentioned this before maybe (sorry!):
I don't see them all the time. They show up at random moments, either during gaming, listening to spotify etc.

Could it still be the cable or monitor given this information?

Thanks!

Yes it can be, try other drivers 1st and then follow those steps if drivers don't help.

Solution

Listen try diferent cable or montior

Installed an older driver and haven't seen any artifacts since.. so lets hope it stays that way!

Good luck !
