I just built a new pc (specs at end). i went very well no problems started updating win 7 and it got late so I turned it off and went to bed. 24 hrs later turned it on and no post. Removed the ram and reseated and after a few restarts it worked perfectly again. Any ideas? I had the bios recover turned on it says it will reset the bios if post fails a number of times. Is that what happened? it been 8 years since I did a full build and not sure what the latest advice is. Thanks

ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
since you just got a new pc,return both
listed above
either the evega is faulty and not givin you enough power to start
and / or the asrock is faulty
send them back cause new build pay restock fees and get the same mobo
but get a difrent PSU one of those parts are broken. PSU would be easiste to replace and i would recommend a seasonic and not an evga.
i would also rebuild you entire pc from hand (now since, any way and make sure there are no short and everything is pluged in all the way and in the right spot. im talking all the way down to the motherboard out of the case and on a box.)
with min requirements:
1 stick...
ram at wrong setting. are you using XMP? to set them , might want to check the batt on the baord make sure it not dead or it will reset the bios every time.

very last thing is you master boot record on you hdd might be bad ask windows to repair itself.

and make sure you did not install you windows on legacy mode or anything, needs to be in apci/UEFI mode.

excuse my ignorance. Not sure on xmp had not tried to overclock at all yet if thats what that means. Do new boards have battery problems? I'll try system recovery if it happens again. I just hope it doesn't.

XMP isnt really overclocking persay it is just "proper" adjusted timings on the RAM, if they run wrong then you will have problem from the getgo buy the gskill have the setting in them and they may need 1.65v instead of 1.5, all you need to do is go in the bios and enable XMP, should be front and ceter if you cant find it right a way youtube it.

Thanks for the help so far it running stable but I'm going to check in the bios and see if I can see if anything changes then completely shutdown for a while and see if that solves the problem. Should I update the bios also?

Still working on it. It failed boot again this morning but I hadn't yet flashed the bios I will turn it off this afternoon for a couple of hours and see if that salves the problem. is avcc on cpuid the cmos battery?

no the Vbatt is the battery, and cpuid only shows cpu info but you need "hardware monitoer" that will show you everything including gpu, psu , ram loads, voltagaes, fanspeeds, package temps and cores usage(all live) .
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/hwmonitor_1.28.exe
go ahead and update the bios, keeping the PC off wont help you, must be proactive! you are not turning it off at the PSU power switch are you? you are just shuting down normally like with the botton on the case?
you dont have the jumper on the clear cmos, right, no screws shorting or anything when you built it? no cable crossed? all lights and hdd lights hooked up right? no fans some where where they aint suppost to be? ram is put in correct slots? slot 1 and 3? check manual..

The reason I want to turn it off is is seems like it works fine unless I leave it off for a long time. then it takes 3 or 4 reboots to get it to post. I just flashed the bios So hopefully that Solves it. I don't see vbat in the hwmonitor. Yeah shutting down normal.

with min requirements:
1 stick RAM
1 ssd
cpu
mobo
psu
and monitor
build it on a BOX. nonconductive of course (easy isest fastes way. for now)

DONT EVEN PLUG IN YOUR YET 970, and see if it works(use the intel for monitore hook up)

if it dosent you need to change your motherboard (maybe PSU)

if it does, plug the 970 in if, it it still works plug everything.

if it is doesnt the your psu is not giving you enough power for your 970, and you need a new PSU,

if everything works something might have went wrong when you built it in the case the first time, rebuild hope for the best.

Solution

After bios update everything seems to work fine. I left it off overnight and it started up without issue. I did notice that after the update the the xmp voltages changed so maybe that was the issue. Thanks for the help.

ok now its completely dead.
Got everything up and running with no issues. Then when I moved it to my computer desk it wouldn't post. Took it back to the table and redid the cabling figuring something must be shorting the MB. Got it up and running again. Then when I moved it the same thing happened. Only now after completely rebuilding it it still won't post. If I remove the ram it will give me an error beep. I am RMA'ing the ram and MB. any idea's on what happened?

did you take the cpu cooler off and try to reset it?
other wise honsetly i would RMA it. if you are having problems now, just by moving it imaging, what will happen if you dont. RMA the board and ram.
at this point idk, but a new PC should work, and if it dosent just by touching it or moving it around then there will be bigger problems to come.
