hi..

lately I've play some games in my PC, and some games like ( Battlefield 2, Assasins Creed : Brotherhood, Mass Effect 2) got delayed and lagg in my PC when I maxed out the video/graphics options....

I have to use "medium - low" graphics setting, which makes me feel frustrated a :( bit,
because I cant enjoy the best graphic provided by the games...

Im planning on upgrading my PC, with the lowest cost and major performance boost...
Im not very familiar with PC specs (like graphic cards series, how much watts power supply to use, etc.).

here is my PC (Acer e-machines et1862) specs
1. CPU - intel core i3-550 3.20 @ 3.20 GHz
2. RAM - Kingston KVR-1333 4GB DDR3
3. Graphic Card - Asus ENGT240 1GB DDR3
4. OS - Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit

can anyone give me suggestions????
:)

I'm using 1920x1080 res....
my budget is around RM1000...

my PSU??
i'm not sure....because it comes in set with my motherboard and casing...
ill try to find out later...do you think PSU effect the game performance???
because I do search about the PSU...some says if the PSU is uncompitable with/ cant support the PC voltage..
the PC will not run, sometimes it will display a blue screen...
but I didn't experience any problems of the above... :)

The graphics card is pretty poor.
See this chart
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/best-graphics-card-gaming-performance,review-32301-7.html

You'll want to jump up a few sections to something like the 6770.

Like Gman450 mentioned the psu is important. If you upgrade your graphics card and the psu can't handle it you will have trouble.

The information about the psu should be on the side of the psu itself.

I don't have a clue about Malaysian hardware sites, so I'll leave that to you as you must have used them before to buy the pc.

This is how a PSU looks like.
4378699514_d821c5edf4_o.jpg

The PSU is the 'Corsair VX450W power supply' that you can see at the bottom of that cabinet.
Depending on the casing, the PSU should either be at the top or bottom. In the picture, it's at the bottom.

Check your PSU adn report back, Also, on the side of the PSU, there should be a chart about the power specifications. In that, check the amps on the +12v rail.

this link show the model of my PSU.

http://www.cwc-group.com/fspgrat25pos.html

PSU :

model no. - ATX - 250PA(1)
AC input - 100-127/220-240V
6/3.15A, 60/50Hz
DC output - 250W(+3.3V & +5V)

p/s -
1. Is the specs enough??? I'm not very familiar with pc hardware specs. So I didn't know what's important to measure the hardware capability.... :D
2. Sorry for a late reply.... I didn't have internet connection at my house. Have to go to CC to get on9....

my PSU too??? :ouch: :ouch: :ouch:

huh...now i'm pretty low on budget...
around RM 1500...
there is no way a better PSU and GPU price around RM 1500...
is there other way??

or I have to collect more budget to upgrade my PC....?? :(

That should be enough for a decent build.
I'm not sure if the prices are different there, but RM 1500 is about $400 in the US. With that, you should get a good card like the Radeon HD 6850 or HD 6870. Anything higher than that, might bottleneck that CPU unless you OC it.
A decent PSU for those cards should be a Corsair TX550M

HD 6870

I also advise you to change your OS to a 64 bit one.

do you mean new GPU+PSU=RM1500($400)??

owh...so there is the problem with CPU if the graphic card is to high??? I never thought that....

I never use radeon before....but I heard that radeon cards generates high temperature as it is running..is it true??? or maybe I there are other nvdia card as the same level with this radeon HD 6850......because only nvdia card support physX right????

No, that's not really true. All sorts of GPUs heat with if no proper cooling is given.
The card that competes with a HD 6850 would be the GTX 460 1GB from NVIDIA. And that too, the 460 will beat the 6850 by a bit.

does 550w PSU enough if I install GTX 460 1GB from nvdia in my PC???HD6850 is it radeon HD6850 1 gb or other HD 6850???i cant view your link...its block.....:(
can u give comparison table of HD6850 and GTX460??
because I realize that many people having a problem choosing the right PSU after upgrading their PC....

I didn't wan to buy the wrong PSU and later have to buy a new PSU again and again... :)

plus...I googled some GC....
what is processor clock and graphics clock....

GeForce GTX 460
processor clock 1350MHz
graphic clock 675MHz
price $219

Asus ENGT430
processor clock 1400MHz
graphic clock 700MHz
price $79

I really appreciate if you can explain to me what is it...
Im still new about specs... :) ....

Processor clocks and graphics clocks are the speeds at which the cards run at. And where did you get that info from?
All in all, the GTX 460 is faster than a GT 430.

When you say about a 550W PSU, can you mention the make/model of that PSU?
It has to be a good one.

thx a lot for your reply.... :)

I did a research on google about the info of the GC specs....
maybe I got a wrong info........

COOLER MASTER 550W EXTREME POWER PLUS PSU - this is the PSU I found in the local store...+/- RM 200 (+/- $63) is this convenient????

I also research about the (GTX 460 1GB and HD 6850), (HD 6870 and GTX 550)
I'm in dilemma for choosing between those two cards manufacturer....can I get your opinion???? :)

what is the different (e.g. ATI Radeon HD6850/ Sapphire ATI HD6850/ Gigabyte HD6850) and (Asus ENGTX-TI 550 / Nvidia Geforce GTX 550TI)
does this mean any different in those card performance.....?

im going to disagree a little. i dont think that a dual core like your i3 will bottleneck a 6850 or even a 6950 from amd. there was a benchmark on here that showed battlefield 3 running just as well on an i3 then a i7 so your shouldnt have to worry about your cpu.

try and get something like an amd 6950 with a 500 watt psu or a nvidia 570 and a 500 watt psu. those combine should be in your budget of about 475 dollars 1500 rm.

really???
did you mean GTX 570??

RM 1500??? that is way higher than my budget...can you suggest a GC and PSU around RM800 ($ 255.47)??? :D :D ....maybe RM900 ($ 287.40) still can be considered.....

like something around gtx 460 , AMD HD6850?? is this worth it???HD 6870 and GTX 550???

you said you had 1500rm and yes the gtx 570

yea....I got RM 1500 i think maybe I could buy some better cooler cpu fan and a better air flow casing too... :D .. I look at the local store...the gtx 570 is cost around RM 1200($382)++ and 550W psu RM 200($64)++...with my budget I afford to buy both...but will gtx 570 run just fine with only 550W???

I did search the forum...
and I found that some people say gtx 570 is on par with HD 6970...
but if I wan to play on 1920x1080 res screen....would it be no problems if I use the GTX 570????

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/HD_6970_Lightning/23.html

seems like the HD 6970 beat gtx 570 in 1920x1080++ res....
can you give me reasons why GTX 570 is better....:D...(I'm nVidia fans....:p)

yes you are correct, normally amd gpu's are better at high screen resolutions. the reason i cant tell you i just know that they conventionally are but it really depends on the game as well. buy based on what gpu is better at the games you like to play.

yes a 550w power supply will be sufficient if it is a good name brand power supply.(ie antec, seasonic, and corsair.)

the sapphire and gigabyte will have better cooling and maybe higher clock rates then the reference amd model. give the links the the cards your looking at and i should be able to tell you the benefits.

so many different manufacturer......... :wahoo:
there are some different in core clock and memory clock, and why is that makes their price vary so much (up to $30 =RM95)...

and while I try to google "HD 6970" some topic says HD 6970 vs GTX 580...is it really comparable to GTX 580??

and recently I found that GTX 570 (RM 1050-1099 = $ 331-347) is cheaper than HD 6970 (RM 1069-1300 =$ 337-410) and
ASUS EAH6970/2DI2S/2GD5 GRAPHIC CARD AMD RADEON HD 6970 is RM 1599 ($ 505)... :??: :)

the price range is so big.....

this is Malaysia GC price example....can give me a guide to choose between them?
