It's been done before by a user called Jungstar. I asked him but he's inactive already.

Now for those of you who managed to get it working too, would you kindly please tell me in details and in simpler terms? Jungstar summarized the whole process but being someone new to PC building like me, half of it only made sense.

Here is his summary.
From: http://
I SUCCEEDED :)

I managed to install an EVGA 1060 single fan SC 6GB into my HP Pro 6300. And it works!

1. It was the only 1060 GPU I could fit, as longer cards would hit the CPU cooler.
2. Most likely your i5 + GTX 1060 will never use more than 220W (see example here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyMlMgMIrL8)
3. I would be more concerned with AMD 470 - 580 etc that get closer to the 280W - 330W (https://youtu.be/mIpOx8YUXuU?t=7m14s)
4. As several people have commented in this thread that the PSU is 320W of continuous use and a good quality one from Lite On with 90+ rating. (87/90/87% efficient @ 20/50/100% load). This means that it can power a GTX 1060 with no problem!
5. I pulled power from one of these bad boys adn stole the STAT power from a missing HDD and the DVD. (https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-SATPCIEX8ADP-6-Inch...)
6. You might need an extender.
7. Now game :)

I lose It step 5 and above. So if anyone could explain it to me better?

Means you need two adapters (each with 2 pigtails) to get power from a total of 4 molex (or sata) connectors to get enough power for the GTX 1060

THis inactive user never posted back about long term effects of this.
I would highly highly advise replacing your PSU to do this as that is a lot of stress to be putting on a 320w psu, even if it is high quality.

Best advice is to always start with the right tool/part for the job. Even more so when that part is the one that can destroy all the other parts.

So I need two pieces of Y cable in the Amazon link?
How about the extender? What is he talking about extender?

I think I'm willing to take the risk, people have been doing it the same with GTX 1050ti and SFF PC's where the PSU is way above the PSU limit. The scenario is the same with this really.

You will need a total of 4 power connections from sata or molex, then get x to pcie Y cable. You may need 2x6pin or 1x6pin and 1x8pin of sata or molex Y adapters. You may also need sata Or molex extension cables since stock power supplies are usually very short.

You can buy adapters and extensions for $25-30 or a proper psu for $50. I personally wouldnt risk frying a $200 gpu and motherboard/cpu to save $25 but if that is your objective then good luck.
FYI a 1060 uses 50 more watts than a 1050ti; 1050 is designed to be used with most oem power supplies, the 1060 is not.

Gosh.... it is working. Still. Do the math :)

OK, you take power from available SATA power cables and merge two into one 6 pin cable. Sata power cables are those that normally power hard drives and DVDs etc. In mine, there were several SATA cables available. You need to merge two SATA into a 6 pin connector. you can buy these on Amazon for 7 USD. Google "two SATA power to 6 pin PCIe". If the cable is not long enough you can buy an extender, in the same way, you do if your lamp is too far from your outlet.

ps, the MidtTower has a much larger PSU than the SFF, so there is really nothing to worry about with a 1060.
p.s.p.s. And for the people that are trying to give advice on buying a new PSU, it is not possible as the motherboard is a special HP one that does not take a 24pin generic power source.
