Aspire 5742 does not regconize wd10jpvt hard drive

Hello,
Orginally had a sata wd500 gig hard drive that went bad.I cannot pboot into the BIOS when the new drive or to the dvd drive. Can boot to both with the old drive in Any suggestions?

Sounds like there is a short with the new drive, could be faulty!
