Aspire laptop won't connect to to with HDMI cable!

My name is Mariana and I have a laptop with is the Aspire One D270 and when I try to connect to the to with a HDMI cable my screen goes black and on the to it says 'no signal', 'function not available' but the thing is that a while back it worked with no problem but now when I try to do it it doesn't work and what ever I do nothing seems to work! Anyone have any solutions?

Try another cable.
Try to alter the sequence of connection. If you have to hit a function key on the laptop to enable the external monitor, leave it off, plug it in, THEN hit the function key. Also try to leave monitor powered off, plug things in, THEN power on the monitor, see what happens.

In a perfect world this should be plug&play but HDMI, specially with early generation equipment don't play with each other so nicely.
