Asrock 970 pro 3. Top down cooler vs Tower cooler and vrm section temperature.

So I was talking via forum posts on asrock forums, they informed me that if i have tower cooler and i want to install fx cpu they provide too much heat to vrm and can cause motherboard problem.
Is that true ?

I have no idea how to provide cooling for only vrm section of the motherboard.
Do i really need it or is it just scare talk ?

That motherboard has 4+1 VRMs which is fairly weak, a downdraft cooler will keep them cool but you can't really overclock with that. Also 125w FX CPUs (such as the 8350) while supported generally work very poorly with such a weak VRM setup.

You can however use a 95w FX CPU (such as the FX-8320e or FX-8370e) and that should work fine. Also you can add a fan to blow over the VRMs that can help.

This is a common issue, while the board says it supports 125w CPUs, it does not, because they run poorly on such boards and can't be overclocked safely.

What kind of cooler should i use to cool my vrm then ? Any advice ?

If you are not overclocking and using a 95w FX CPU you probably don't need to worry about cooling your VRMs. Just make sure your case has good airflow (like more than 1 fan - preferably 2 intake and 1 exhaust fan) and you are fine.

Buy a couple fans that fit in the mounts in the case, they are like 5 bucks each.

I have my case open for like 15 years now. My legs are no hair in front of me, so there isn't really a problem when it comes to damaging something.

A proper fan setup in a closed case is actually better for cooling than a case with the side panel left off, especially for components that do not have active cooling, like the VRMs.
