Asrock 990fx Extreme 3 Motherboard exploded!!

Hello all,

wondering if anyone has had any problems with the Asrock 990fx Extreme 3 Motherboard and if they have been able to contact Asrock over it? I haven't had any luck so far 🙁

I've had this MOBO for exactly 1 year but last Friday one of the 2r2 (i think) resistors suddenly and unexpectedly caught fire and or exploded! I haven't overclocked or stressed the system hard.

Quite an adventure 😀
(Mainly discussion not really looking for an answer, i've contacted the shop i got the board from and am waiting on a reply

Still no response, starting to worry now i really need this pc for class 12

I hope you only took the heatsink off after the thing caught fire... Then again, the VRM heatsink on my 990fx killer almost evaporates anyway.

haha yeah it took me about half an hour to realise the smell was under the heat sink, i didn't take it off before! i have a picture of the scorch mark on the thermal compound on the heatsink, it's about 4 cm long haha D:

prior to the explosion i was using the stock cpu cooler, top down flow noisy as but it worked! max heat i recorded was 67 when ambient air temp out side the case was 30-35 in the summer, the case is a bitfenix colossus with 2 (i think they're 148mm??) built in chassis fans, one small fan expelling air at the back and 3 wind force fans on my gtx 770 great airflow

after reading more i've got the hyper 212 evo but haven;t been able to use it yet, apologies for bad grammar/spelling, just learning Dvorak keyboard haha
