Hey Guys and Gals,
I have an ASRock 990FX Extreme 3 motherboard that I have been having trouble with ever since I wanted to reload the OS on the system.
Firstly I have configured 2 separate boot-able USB flash drives with Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 10 64-bit respectively and I have configured the primary hard drive for AHCI in the storage configuration settings.
I remember at some point in the last two years when I reloaded this system before that the UEFI settings in the BIOS were causing this problem and that changing those settings resolved the issue. At that time I was running Bios revision P1.20 on the board and a few minutes ago as part of the steps to try to resolve the issue I have flashed the BIOS to version P1.90 as downloaded from the USA mirror from ASRock's website.
The Hard drive I am trying to use for testing is a Western Digital WD1500HLFS Velociraptor. As I am trying not to boot from the original drive (Sandisk SSD) and load on a test OS to the temporary hard drive, it seems as if the drive can be seen in the bios just fine, however when trying to install either Windows 7 or Windows 10 the critical part where the install process detects the hard drive connected to the system is not displaying.
When I try to install drivers from teh ASROCK driver CD it seems it finds no drivers that allow the drive to be seen. I ahve tried the AMD drivers as well as the Marvell controller drivers and have had no luck.
I have completely forgotten what settings to change if any needed with the UEFI and other searches on google which have led me to tweaktown, other threads here on tomsharware, and even a couple youtube promotional videos from Asrock have not provided the answer I am looking for.
Any help would be appreciated and I hope someone has the answer as I am frustrated and seem to have hit a wall with this. Thanks.
P.S. => the WD hard drive I am using for testing has worked in a Dell Precision T5400 workstation just fine before pulling it to work on this setup.
P.P.S. => Hardware details are as follows: Asrock 990FX Extreme3 Motherboard with BIOS P1.90, G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR, AMD FX6350 CPU, EVGA GTX 770 SSC, Western Digital WD1500HLFS Velociraptor Hard Drive.
