sorry to necro this but can anyone pls elaborate why the 990fx is a better choice. I am looking forward to buying a new mobo as my old one got fried. my old one was an asrock 990fx extreme3 and the one available at the store nearest me is an msi 970.

because 990FX offers more PCI-E 2.0 lan than 970, and you can not cross fire with 970
