My Extreme4 990FX was working fine and has is now refusing to boot. Its BIOS is returning 6 Beeps. For some reason the manual doesn't include Beep codes. The Dr Debug indicator starts beeping at 4F then goes to 05 and sticks.

4F - DXE IPL is started
05 - OEM initialization before microcode loading.

Clear as mud to me.

Anyone know about these boards - particularly what the Beep code should be telling me. Everything i can find on the web is for 5 beeps or less.

Its not the Graphics card - the same beeps plugged in or removed. Same with the RAM.

Last work on this was to bring the speeds of the RAM back to what they were supposed to be (1866 as opposed to 1333 that was on the BIOS) using the supplied BIOS configuration utility. This seemed to work ok - done 3 days ago.

Specs;

Asrock Extreme 4 990FX Mobo
AMD 8350 CPU (3.9GHZ)
8GB Hyper X Beast Ram
XFX 650W bronze PSU
AMD 7870XT GPU

Stuck here. Can anyone help?

Try resetting your BIOS. I have the 970 Extreme4 and I had some problems after OC'ing my CPU and my PC wouldn't turn on at all. All it took was a BIOS reset and everything was perfectly fine again.

BIOS is reseted by pressing a BIOS reset button on your mother board or possibly on the back of your case. If you don't have a BIOS reset button, you can remove the battery in your MB and put it back in. That should reset your BIOS too.

Found Beep codes on ASROCK site but not much wiser
