When i plug in the microphone i dont get anything except a hiss. The microphone is working on my phone but not on the pc. I tried both the front and rear ports. What should I do?

Make and model of your microphone? How are you connecting the microphone to your system? List your current specs like so:

Latest BIOS for your motherboard? Also, are you on the latest drivers for your sound card, provided you're working with the analog connectors.

Microphone for your Phone?
Are you sure you are not referring to headphone/microphone combo?
That has 3 bands on the plug where are a computer doesn't accept that, you need a splitter.
Although I do think computers should be updated and have a combined mic/speaker socket by now.
