Hello,

I am working on a new build. I have done a couple of builds before with no problems, but I do not work in the computer field. I just like to work with my hands.

ASRock Z68 Extreme7 Gen3 is the mother board.

Like a few other cases I have read about, I was getting an A3 code with nothing showing up on my TV/monitor. I removed the video card and am using the board's video HDMI connection for now. My monitor gives me an image now. I changed the BIOS from IDE to AHCI. Like everyone else, the code changes to A9 immediately followed by A6 but the system will not start. I just get kicked back to BIOS.

I noticed that BIOS is not detecting my SATA3 drive or optical drive. Both these drives work normally when connected to my old system. When I switch the connections to a different SATA3 ports on the board they are detected but then I get an A2 code. On exiting BIOS, the Windows7 repair screen comes up. The program is not able to "repair" the problem and the system shuts down.

I am at a bit of a loss at to where to go from here.

Well, I contacted their customer service and was able to solve the problem. It seems like it was supposed to run on IDE so the change to AHCI that I read about elsewhere was incorrect.

It should have been left at the default IDE. The problem was that one of the memory sticks was not seated in place completely. It certainly looked like it was correct, but once I removed it and put it in again everything ran just fine. So I guess the best thing to do with an A3 warning is be sure everything is inserted all the way into the board.
