Hi

I just build a new PC with a SSD for the OS and a HDD for games and mass storage
But the HDD is very slow it's especially noticeable while playing "or trying to" ,installing or downloading large games

The HDD is ST200DM001 Seagate 2Tb
I ran seatool for windows and it failed in the short DST

and Crystal Disk Info

seatool asked me to run seatool for dos
I did try to run it but because my SATA controller is set to AHCI it cant detect any drive
" no controllers detected "
===========================

I have two Questions:
Q1 : can I fix my drive or not? "It is an international purchase so I really wish I don't have to return it .

Q2 : I really hated asrock because I can't see the IDE in its UEFI "only RADE and AHCI"
how can I set the SATA controller to IDE "ATA" .

Solution
don't know about hating asrock but now ide may of been removed form all 100 series and up boards ??

see now a days instead of them [any brand or device ] supporting you and your needs you now got to support them and there needs - you know like how windows 10 is you do as it wants not as you do anymore ,

sad thing is all my platter drives are set and loaded on ide so that would screw me hard as well , thanks for pointing this out

looking at that manual why then have this foot note ?

''AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) supports NCQ and other new features that will improve SATA disk performance but IDE mode does not have these...

even this asus h170 is the same ??

like said you now got to support them not them supporting you . that's now a thing of the past it seems

well said

thank you for conforming

ya, another thing I say is how upgrading today hurts me more then it helps me , seems compatibility and support has taken a back seat to sales hype and gimmicks ..

strong selling points are led lighting and crazy dust shields covering up the board so to trap heat and extra dust and no practical use at all

these boards still seem to offer that ide [but still not so clear on that seeing it don't show IDE by default or in there screen shots ?? ] with the C232 chipset and not as stranded to windows 10 that was so far the only 1151 boards I could see going with for my needs if I had no other options

this one tells you nothing at all ?? [page 58 ]

like said if it don't do as you want just go buy more new stuff that maybe it can ??? that don't cost ''THEM'' a thing

ths MSi h170 its the sam no ide setting ?

seems like that's a dead and done for deal on that

even the new AMD boards are now the same thing as well

how about the new AMD MotherBoardes?

that gigabyte I linked above is one and looks to be the same , no ide [page 32 ]

SATA Mode
Enables or disables RAID for the SATA controllers integrated in the Chipset or configures the SATA controllers to AHCI mode.
RAID Enables RAID for the SATA controller.
AHCI Configures the SATA controllers to AHCI mode. Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) is an interface specification that allows the storage driver to enable advanced Serial ATA features such as Native Command Queuing and hot plug. (Default)

see just ahci and raid that's it

I guess just have to look at each and every manual of the boards and see but like everything else today you loose and you now support them not them supporting you anymore
