Asrock h97 pro4 vs Asus h97-plus

I'm building a new system and I'm looking for the bang for the buck motherboard there is with a h97 chipset and these two caught my attention. The asrock because of the price the asus because it was highly recommended on other threads, so I was wondering which is better or why.
Also I'm kind of stuck at cpu side as well because I was looking for the best value non-overclockable cpu and now I'm stuck between the i5-4460 and tge i5-4690. The difference between performance is not very big but the difference between the price aren't either so what would you recommend?
The other parts of my system that I'm sure about:
GPU: Gigabyte Gtx 970
Case: Phanteks Enthoo pro
PSU: cooler master g650m
RAM: 8gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz

I would go with the Asus H97-Plus because of its durability and its ability to support crossfire.

I would suggest get the ASRock H97 Pro4, as it has 6 port audio while the ASUS offers only 3 port audio. Also there is no point in choosing a board that supports crossfire while you're considering a NVIDIA card. Either of these board has no support for SLI. ASRock H97 Pro4 is a solid board, pair it with i5 4590 which is consider as a non-K i5 sweet spot for gaming, rather than an i5 4460 or 4690.

Wow, thanks for the detailed answer! But now you just brought up another great option with the Gigabyte board. Considering that the Gigabyte board is kind of in the same price range as the Asus one is there a notable or an outstanding feature that would make it worth the extra over the Asrock one?

I would certainly suggest Gigabyte H97 D3H, as for just $5 extra it comes with these:

- SATA Express support for 10 Gb/s data transfer [Asrock don't have this]
- M.2 for SSDs drives with up to 10 Gb/s data transfer [Asrock don't have this]
- 6 x USB 3.0/2.0 ports (4 ports on the back panel, 2 ports available through the internal USB header) [Asrock has same nos]
- 8 x USB 2.0/1.1 ports (2 ports on the back panel, 6 ports available through the internal USB headers) [Asrock has only 6 USB 2.0 (4 Front, 2 Rear)]
- 3 x system fan headers [Asrock has only 2 system fan headers]
- Support for AMD CrossFire [Asrock don't have this].

Above all Gigabyte is always rated a bit high than ASRock in terms of durability and performance.
