Hi Guys, ran into a bit of a problem and wasn't able to find a solution anywhere after looking at multiple forums. Hopefully one of you out there has run into the same issue and fixed it.

First and foremost my current system:

MB: Asrock P67 Extreme4 (Bios has never been updated)
CPU: i7 2600(non k) Sandy Bridge
Gpu: PNY GTX 580 1.5gb
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1
Ram: 12gb Kingston 1333 ddr3 (MB is dual channel but the bios still shows as running DC even with 3 sticks, would be nice if someone could explain this as well)
Boot drive: WD blue 500gb
PSU: cooler master 700 watts

OK so this system has been going strong since 2011, but recently I have been seeing artifacts in different areas so I decided to upgrade the gpu because i though the cpu will run fine still for a year or so. Went ahead and bought the Powercolor Red Dragon Rx 480 4gb and plugged it in and I am getting a code 97 on the MB and no video output. GTX 580 still works the same.

I plugged the new card into my Wife's PC, All the components are the same except she is running 8gb of ram, her motherboard is an Asus P8P67 pro and her GPU is GTX 570. The RX 480 works just fine on her system.

I was thinking of updating the bios, but only thing the bios updates is the ability to use 3rd gen IVY bridge cpu with the motherboard and i am not sure if its gonna break the sandy bridge compatibility.

Any feed back would be appreciated.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I have already taken some basic troubleshooting steps i.e.
1.Removed power to all other components
2.Removed Cmos battery, and reset the cmos and bios(this wasn't even needed in my wife's computer, plug and play in that one)
3.Plugged the card into the 2nd pcie slot, cannot plug it into the 3rd slot because the IO cables and bottom mounted PSU blocks double slot cards.

Yell at me if I am forgetting any other steps.

Thankyou

Sounds like you've covered the basics...

According to ASRock's information the code suggests a problem with a PCI-E device. Given your troubles it suggests the graphics card. Problem is, you know it works because you installed the supposed problematic device on another PC and it works fine. We can at least rule out a faulty graphics card.

The only thing I can think of is related to whether the graphics card has to work in a legacy or UEFI BIOS, and I can't see such an option from the manual. Some graphics cards have a switch to change from legacy to UEFI mode for compatibility mode, but mainly Sapphire's (I'm not sure of others).

Thanks for the reply, If by switch you mean a physical switch or jumper on the PCB of the card then I don't see one on the card though the card is extremely well covered by the shroud and the back plate, if the switch is software switch then I have no clue how to get to it but I would still need to slap it back into my wife' PC. Thing is that I know for sure that both mine and her BIOS are UEFI so i am not sure what the switch would do if there is one.

I have sent the Asrock tech support and email about this issue, and am hoping for an answer, I can guarantee you are correct about it being a BIOS issue. I have seen posts about Asrock tech support sending people with h77 and z77 motherboards special bios updates via email to fix their compatibility issues so I hope they do the same for me, if not then I will attempt to update the bios with the only update available on their site.
And if that doesn't work, I guess I can look into swapping motherboards but that is going to be some serious hassle.

If you guys figure something else out let me know, and I will update this if or when I get a reply from Asrock.

Thankyou
