Asrock p67 Extreme4 Gen3 + i5 2500k problem after bios update

Hello all,

After installing Windows 10 i had the problem of my CPU (i5 2500k) using 100%. So after searching i found out i needed to flash my bios to the latest 2.20 version for this to go away.

Flashing went successful?

rebooted after the bottom half was green,but after reboot, i only got 5 beeps and a black screen, error code on motherboard showing a9 (Start of setup).

Clear CMOS button did nothing. Tried clear CMOS jumper, now i'm stuck with the same 5 beeps but with error code d6 (No Console Output Devices are found)

In the mean time i tried the following things:
- disconnecting all drives
- reconnecting power cables
- reseating vga card, removing vga card
- reseating memory

None of them gave a change in beeps or error code.

If i press the del key on the motherboard the code changes to a9 (Start of setup)

I hope anyone can help me out

well don't forget when you flash it resets all your bios back to default so say you installed windows with the sata port set to ahci and the flash set it back to ide it will not boot ??

then I guess welcome to win -10 ??
you do see guys loose usb and lan a lot maybe that the d7 error ??

d7 - The Keyboard and mouse could not be recognized. Please try re-installing the keyboard and mouse

2 short Parity error.
3 short Main memory read / write test error.
4 short System timer failure.
5 short Process error.
6 short Keyboard controller BAT test error.
7 short General exception error.
8 short Display memory error.
9 short ROM BIOS checksum error.
10 short CMOS shutdown Read/Write error.
11 short Cache Memory bad


don't look like the bios 2.20 really did anything overall ??

1. Add Dehumidifier Function.
2. Modify for Windows8 shut down behavior.

thing is asrock got a 10 support but it don't show any board drivers or nothing for 10 so to say ??

look at win-7 drivers and then 10 you see what I mean

win-10 on old hardware seems to be at own risk ???

Connecting the keyboard indeed fixes the d7 error. But after that i keep the 5 beeps with error code d6.

In the mean time i tried the following things:

I cannot get into the bios because I only get a black screen, so i cannot change or flash another bios 🙁

what vid card ??? is it a new 900 series ?? did you have these issues on your old OS like win-7 or what ever you had befpre 10

was thus a clean install of 10 or a upgrade ? wht I find funny is I see a few time with 10 and how it affect the bios why is a OS doing so ?? hmmmm...

well with out the hard drives and all all you would ned is to use the onboard video for that by default

well at first you said you flashed a nd after you did you were ablel to post and display to give the screen shots , right then this black screen just started up ???

but still with a AMI bios the 5 beep means ''5 short Processor error The system CPU has failed ''

in the end you know all was fine and dandy until 10 got involved that's the thing so what did 10 really do

In the end after trying different things Asrock is providing me a new bios chip!
