Asrock X79 Extreme6
Intel i7 4820K LGA 2011

I'm getting a 00 code on Dr. Debug. I thought the problem was the need of a bios update. I don't have access to another supported processor so I bought a supposedly updated bios chip from ebay and installed it. Still getting the 00 error. I tried clearing CMOS but that didn't work either. Maybe the new bios chip is bogus? Do people generally have good experiences with buying bios chips on ebay? Is there anything else I could be missing here?

The PSU is working fine, checked with a multimeter. Everything lights up and the fans work.

I think it boils down to the ebay bios chip being bogus or the cpu being bogus.
The cpu makes me nervous because it's the one component I bought off ebay (other than the bios chip), but the seller seems legitimate.

ASRock will charge me 15 bucks for a another bios chip. I also have an extra motherboard of the same type... It would be useful if I could buy a super cheap processor that the motherboard natively supports to troubleshoot everything, but I don't see many cheap LGA 2011 Sandy Bridge processors.

The only other thing I can think of is if there are any special steps to installing a new bios chip. I just pulled the old one out and put a new one in, and then cleared the cmos.

Hi, did you manage to solve this problem? I have a very similar problem myself, and on the verge of trying to get a replacement cpu, but was your problem related to something else?

I ordered a second motherboard that supports the same processor. It didn't work with the new motherboard and I concluded I was sold a bogus CPU. I returned the CPU on ebay, the seller seemed to have no qualms with this so I think they may have known... and then just returned the new motherboard.

Ok thanks for replying, did you then re-order a new version of the processor? as in are you currently using the new build using the same motherboard and cpu?

I was so frustrated with that whole ordeal that I additionally sold the two x79 boards I had and just got something newer. I wasn't particularly attached to them, I was only trying to use them because they were brand new but abandoned and gathering dust at work. I thought someone might as well try and do something with them but the processors are so expensive and I didn't want to take any chances again.

ok, I'm just going to go for it and try and replace my cpu. I know how frustrating it is though, I've had this problem since Christmas, so I've been stuck to mostly only my laptop and so not being able to play any pc games! :'(
