ASRock Z170 Extreme7+ or Gigabyte GA-Z170X Gaming GT?

HI guys which one of those mobos would you pick?

I had initially settled on the ASUS Maximus VIII Hero, but then read many, many bad reviews so I've decided to stay away from ASUS boards for now.

So should I instead go for the ASRock Z170 Extreme7+ or the Gigabyte GA-170X Gaming GT?

Note: I am aware Skylake has a string of reported issues right now, which is why i have not made a decision yet, I am just looking for different opinions.

Between the two I'd go witht the ASRock Z170 Extreme7+

Either board should be great, but the ASRock has:

- 1 extra M.2 port (if you want to future-proof just a bit more)
- USB 3.1 available (won't make much difference now, but in about a year you'll start to see this really shine)

Now, this is probably a stupid question, but, does it matter at all that I am getting a Gigabyte GPU? Would it magically function better on a Gigabyte motherboard?

No problem.

As far as using the same brand mobo and card, they like to market that there is a performance increase, and often there are a few pieces of integrated software that communicate a bit better, but as far as the actual GPU performance is concerned it really doesn't matter.

I'd recommend staying away from the ASRock Extreme7+ as I currently have it and have issues with it reading my R9 390 and my mouse and keyboard got the mouse and keyboard to work but not the GPU I've tried installing the drivers for it but it won't allow me saying it does not support this platform tried this on both Win7 and Win10 so I ruled out the issue with operating system. I recommend just going with either the Gigabyte GA-Z170X Gaming GT or an MSI M7 if you don't want to go with Asus. To conclude if you don't want to save around 80 dollars go with the Gigbabyte one as it offers more lanes for more GPU's color scheme is also much nicer if you want to save than go with the MSI M7 either way you can't go wrong.

If the Gigabyte GT fills your needs, perhaps the Gigabyte 7 would too. It is at least a hundred dollars cheaper, selling for $170 on NewEgg, and is pretty indistinguishable from the GT.

Except for a small difference in the upgrade able amp, Anand says:

. . . "The Gaming 7 returns to a numbering system to represent features, and for all intents and purposes this is a near carbon copy of the GT but using a different power delivery system with what seems like the 60A IR chokes and a fewer number of phases overall. There are also fewer user adjustable switches for features on the bottom, but the main ones are still present." . . .

so I guess the differences between the two boards are a secret, cause every side by side comparison show all the same features except for the 2nd adjustable audio amp on the GT. Please note that we are referring to the GT and not the G1.

Personally I am going to buy the 7. It's a hundred plus dollars less expensive than the GT and has been claimed to have better overclocking according in a review that I can't remember the source of.
