ASRock Z77 EXTREME4 boot slow with HDD plugged in.

So I got an SSD due to the hype that SSD was so much better then a HDD in speed, and that you will notice the difference. So I got an Intel SSD 520 60GB. And with a fresh install of Win 7, and I was disappointed. Didn't notice any performance difference from my old HDD, didn't even boot faster.

Then I asked in a forum if this was suppose to be right, http://i.imgur.com/JuNnYAx.jpg Not much help, and they said it was suppose to be a noticeable difference. And now I'm going to try the 4:th time to see if I can fix the problem. Not sure if I can get better speed when I'm logged in, but a faster boot speed would be nice.

I noticed that the boot speed is only slow when I have my other 2 HHD plugged in, so somehow ether Windows or my motherboard is doing something with my other 2 HDD at start up.

So my question is, is my setup for the SSD and my 2 HDD setup correct? I have tried in different combinations but didn't get anywhere. But if they are correct, is there anyone who might have an idea? after almost 3 years of trying I haven't got far in the SSD speed hype

Also, Intel SSD toolbox says it 100% fine.

Welcome to Tom's Hardware, Frejoh466!

Sorry to hear about your issues with the storage setup! :( I'd suggest you to try plugging the HDDs in the next available SATA ports after the SSD instead of this random positioning. I'd also check how the HDDs react to a different SATA cable.
However, the performance of the SSD is concerning. I'd recommend you to check and see if you have AHCI set for the SATA mode and also if you have TRIM enabled. How long have you had the slow booting issue with the solid-state? Has it always been like that?
I'm not sure how much this would help, but I guess you can try resetting BIOS and see if that will improve the transfer speeds. Here's a link that suggests a couple of methods to perform this reset: http://www.wikihow.com/Reset-Your-BIOS
Keep in mind though, that this would get your BIOS settings back to factory defaults, so you'd need to know how to re-configure them afterwards.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted!

leave your SSD in SATA3_0 port, Move 1 of the other 2 into SATA3_1 port and move the other one into SATA3_A0. And what you did wrong was you changed only SATA Mode selection. Leave that to IDE and Change "ASMEDIA SATA3 mode into AHCI then you should be good to go

Ok, that didn't go as expected. I configured as you said. http://i.imgur.com/HRUqH4b.jpg

And got BSOD when I tried to boot. So I thought perhaps the SSD got unplugged when I switched the HDD. So I reconnected them, and then nothing happened when I pressed the power button.... 30min later I got it to start but still got BSOD, later I realize that perhaps it was the changes in BIOS that was the problem, and yes, the "SATA Mode Selection" must be on AHCI and not on IDE, as IDE give me BSOD every time I try to boot. But now I have "ASMEDIA SATA3 mode" on AHCI, and SSD is still in SATA3_0, HDD1 is in SATA3_1 and HDD 2 is in SATA3_A0

and now I'm getting this http://i.imgur.com/EA0UGYc.jpg

So more problems have arise from doing this. Also, TRIM is on, and reset BIOS did not work, and it has always booted slow (unless I unplug the HDD).

Hey there again! Your screenshot makes me thing that the issue is with the drivers, rather than the hardware components. It is common for Windows 7 AHCI driver to cause this issue and make a SATA HDD look like it's ejectable. I think you should re-install your SATA/chipset drivers using your motherboard's manufacturer website (or the DriversPack CD/DVD that came with the mobo). You can also try doing this through Device Manager.

Hopefully this would make things better with the booting as well as the proper detection of your SATA devices.
Keep us posted! :)

I reinstalled the drivers but the eject button is still there (the eject media button is only there if I have it plugged in to the SATA3_A0 or SATA3_A1).

Also @Vahe Bro A Why should one HDD be in SATA3_1 and the other in SATA3_A0, shouldn't both be on the SATA3_A0 and SATA3_A1 then?
