I was away from home for about a week, and when I came back my computer wouldn't turn on, it was working fine before I left. The power was unplugged while I was away, and that is really the only thing that's been different from normal.

The CMOS battery on the motherboard usually dies whenever the power is disconnected, forcing me to set the correct date/time whenever it's moved, but surely this can't cause it to not power up at all?

When connecting an ethernet cable to the board, the network activity LED lights up when the power supply is connected, though no other lights on the motherboard turns on. Pressing the power/reset buttons on the board seems to have no effect, fans don't start spinning etc.

I haven't done a paperclip test with the PSU yet, but I'll do that as soon as I'm home. I guess what I'm asking is, is it likely that the motherboard has gone bad rather than the PSU?

EDIT: Thanks to Ganon11000 for the answer, pushing the reset CMOS switch on the back panel cleared it right up!

That's great. Since the CMOS Battery is constantly dying you may want to look on Amazon / eBay for a new CR2032 battery.

Hey guys, I had the exact same problem as Asyra today, so I am answering this topic about it. Yesterday I turned off the computer normally, then today the same wouldn't let me start it. I tried what ganon11000 said about removing the battery, but it didn't seem to work. the PSU is normal, I tried to turn on the computer pressing the power button and connecting/disconnect the PSU cable and suddenly the computer started! I am posting this message with it, but I am afraid to turn it off and the problem shows again. I appreciate any help!
Thank you!

I had the exact same problem as Asyra, Ganon11000's solution of removing the cmos battery for 30 seconds solved my problem as well :) time to get a new cmos battery!
