Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Concern

I recently bought AC IV : Black Flag. But I was told by a friend that when he bought AC IV and tried to install it, his computer blacked out and when he took it to a repair shop, he found out that his OS was corrupted. Now this got me worried that I might have a similar experience and have not yet installed the game. What can I do to prevent such a thing? Should I scan the files in the AC IV drive with a software? Or else, is there any way in which I can back-up my OS (Windows 7 SP 1, 32-bit , if it helps)?

I wouldn't worry about it, installing a game will not corrupt your OS, he probably had another issue such as HDD failing.

Well, sorry but I got that part wrong. He installed the game fine, but his PC crashed the moment he clicked on the AC IV .exe to play the game. That's what got me worried.

if there were such a problem we will know about it long ago. and it is possible your friend's PC having problem even before he installed the game. anyway you can create restore point before installing the game.
