Hello fine people. I've tried many solutions from your site but none have helped so I'm registering. I'm flustered after spending 4 straight hours on this so please bear with me!

Today I installed a new ASUS RT-N66U dual-band router. After doing so I cannot print on any of my machines. I can see the printer and it says in use, but I'll get an error message that says it's not connected.

I'm using a Macbook now but also have an old Windows XP machine which is wired. Neither can print, but both are online. I've tried adjusting changes like snooping in the router's settings but nothing seems to work. My SSIDs and passwords are identical to before. I suspect it might have something to do with this one connecting at 5GHz, but the old one can't do that wired (can it?) so I don't know. Last time I swapped routers it was easy so I'm quite perplexed by this.

I'm sure I'm omitting things you'd like to see so please let me know as I'm desperate to get this fixed!

EDIT: It's a wifi printer. That's not explicitly stated but it is a Canon MX340.

EDIT 2: Man I'm so tired. Forgot to mention the wired computer prints wired, and I had not plugged it in. Duh. Wife's Macbook Air though cannot print either.

Solution
Hello justabaldguy!

Firstly, since this is a brand new router, go to the router setup page (usually something like 192.168.0.1) and make sure that there are no firmware updates from the manufacturer, this is sometimes solve the problem.

Secondly, can you please try changing your router's SSID to something new, as some computers and printers will have a conflict with the exact same name.

Usually with routers that have a 5 GHz and a 2.4 GHz network, it does not matter if the wireless printer is connected to the 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz, devices connected to both bands will be able to print, since they go through the router.

But that is assuming that your printer AND router are both AirPrint compatible (which is required for your...

But that is assuming that your printer AND router are both AirPrint compatible (which is required for your Mac/iPad/iPhone/Apple Devices).

Let me know how things work out. Good luck! :)

Edit: Also, while you're in the router setup page, look for a setting that has to do with "AirPrint" or "Printers."

Solution
The MX340 can only connect at 2.4GHz, not 5GHz. Do you have both bands enabled on the router?

Did you wirelessly reconnect the printer to the router? Even if you are using the same SSID and security settings, you should reestablish the connection between the printer and router by going through the printer's wireless setup procedure.
