Asteroids in cocktail mode - button strangeness

This is curious ........ Asteroids board (cocktail capable) that works
fine when flipped for player 2 BUT the hyperspace button won't work.
Said button works fine for player 1. Now given that the buttons are
all shared between both players, what would cause this? Player 2
*does* use a different ground wire that's connected to the grounded
'flip' wire, but no apparent faults here. All relevant diodes in the
wiring check out okay.

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Sorry, didn't explain that properly - I meant that Hyperspace works
for player 1 and seeing as the Player 1 Hyperspace button is wired
okay to the Hyperspace button for Player 2 AND said button for player
2 is okay - well, that's the puzzle!

Are you saying that Player 2's hyperspace button does not work during game
play? I can testify that said button will NOT work during self-test! Dunno
why this is, but it's the truth. I guess the self-test code just hops over
that particular button for some reason. But all other inputs respond okay
(you get a beep in the speaker).

I mean the button doesn't work in game mode.
