I have just got my Asus 280x and have an issue with incorrect power supply leads.

I have an older power supply a "Codegen 550 Watt" - Model 550X

The 280X has 2 extra 8 pin connectors it requires.

The card comes with a 2 by 6 pin to 8 pin connector (I hope that is clear). I can connect this without issue.

The problem is I can't plug into the 2nd 8 pin connector on the card.

I have another 8 pin connector coming out of the power supply but the pinout arrangement is different (Squares in different places) so it physically doesn't plug int.

2 questions:
1 - Is the power supply too old/ not high enough Wattage.

2 - If it is adequate, can I get an adapter for the 8 pin connector that is coming out of my power supply to let me plug it into the 280X card?

Sorry if this is hard to understand.

If you want to crossfire them later a 900 watt power supply is recommended but something like this would be good as long as you don't have a heavily overclocked 8 core cpu.

If you want to forget about crossfire this would be just fine for one 280x

Well to answer your question yes you'll need a power supply with at least a 750W output. I have the exact same card and luckily I already had a 750W psu. Your 8 pin power supply connector isn't intended to be plugged in the video card if it doesn't fit. I also tried connecting it to my gpu without any luck only to realize later that it had to be connected to my mother board (next to the cpu). So I used 2X6 pin connectors with the adapter provided with the gpu and it works great! However you really need at least a 750W psu.

Hmmm, thats a bummer. I have no idea about power supplies so have no idea what to look for.
What brand power supplies would you recommend?
Also, you say you need "At least 750 Watts" if I added a 2nd 280x in the future what kind of wattage increase would I need?

I am in NZ.
I am looking at these 2 at the moment

But should I go for an 850 Watt for "headroom"?
Perhaps something like
