So I have a PC with a asus maximus 7 hero motherboard.

I finally decided to use their 5 way optimization utility.

I click on 5 way optimization, told it to overclock my CPU (4790K) to 4.6 ghz, program all the fan speeds, etc.

I start the 5 way optimization and my PC restarts.

Then the signal to my monitor is cut and the usb ports are not being powered. It's been like that for about 20 minutes now. The code on my motherboard reads "6A".

I have no idea what's going on or what to do and I'm afraid to turn it off because I heard that it can damage components when your overclocking.

Someone please tell me whats going on. I would really appreciate it.

Unfortunately those auto-OC methods don't always work and sometime try to push the CPU harder than it can handle. 99% that's what's happened. Don't worry though, a CPU will stop working long before any physical damage is done. You just need the motherboard to put some less aggressive settings in place.

You just need to hard power it off, then turn it back on again. 90% the motherboard will detect the fact that the system didn't POST because of OC settings and dial things back for you automatically. If that doesn't happen, post back, there are plenty of other options so don't worry.

First of all I want to thank you for writing this post because I was really nervous before I saw it.

Anyway I did what you said and something kind of strange happened.

I hard powered off the PC and turned it back on. It seemed to boot normally.

When it was done booting and went to the desktop I saw that AI Suite (the utility I used to overclock) said that the overclock was... SUCCESSFUL? Then it proceeded to auto tune the fans and the other stuff.

Here is a screenshot from after I restarted: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B92mAaxj3KLedEhFazI4WEZjNVE/view?usp=sharing

Does this mean that it worked or did something go horribly wrong? Do you think it could be a power supply issue?

Thanks again for your help!

Ahhh mate im so happy that some one managed to answer that question. I was having the same problem and was afraid to turn the system off but it seemed to have worked.

Thanks man
