Asus 503u SUPER slow.

i am writing with a question about my asus 503u laptop. pretty much from day one it has been super slow. thought maybe it was only internet but have noticed it with other programs and when starting up or shutting down too. comes up with not responding message as well. thinking of just trying to do a reinstall and see if that helps. any suggestions?
