Hey guys:

I'm so headache with a problem which is my ASUS 680I (striker extreme) doesnt support INTEL QX6700.

ASUS has released a lastest BIOS version which is 0701 by 20/12/2006 and I have upgraded already.

the montherboard box says: FULLY SUPPORT INTEL QX6700 and I can see the processor information is correct in BIOS interface that is: INTEL CORE 2 QUAD XXXX which means the montherboard detected my CPU, the same information I can see that in WINDOWS XP PRO SP2 and CPU-Z 1.38.

however, there only two cores are working at the monent in winxp, cos only two cores shows in windows task manager, but actually should be shows four cores.

I have been reinstalled windows xp few times even windows vista, but still same.

I believe the QX6700 doesnt have any problem because I've checked by intel CPU ID software and the cpu is retail ver and was sealed.

I have chekced so many times in bios or guide book which like any switch to enable or disable four core and the answer is NO!

I have runned few times of 3D MARK 06, the CPU score is strange which only around 2500 same as E6700, the real QX6700 should be between 4500-5500, so I'm sure the two of them cores are unable to work at the monent.

please help me!

thank you so much!

i guess each core you see is one core 2, so 2 core 2 x 2 = 4 cores, maybe??, dont regard on 3dmark performance, its more the set up for the multithreathed apps than anything else, try to use 3dmax, or sisoftsandra, yes! download sisoftsandra 2007 and run multi core benchmark, youll be on pair with others qx6700, i hop to be useful

i have the same chipset as you but the evga board, if the bios is the same then heading into "Advanced Chipset Features" then into "CPU configuration".
if it is the same, you should see core0, followed by core 1, core 2, and last core 3. you have the option of enabling or disabling any core you want except
core 0. since you have a quad core check to see if they are all enabled. hope this helped!

thanks for your reply.

however, I've checked my cpu with another motherboard which is a 965 chipset and working perfect.

so I believe the processor doesnt have any problems.

fortunatelly, I found out a user who has asus 680I+qx6700 as well.

he said to me seems he never has problem as this, unbelieveable! which means the 680i fully support qx6700?

he also told me that I dont have to adjust anything in BIOS of enable or disable multi cores and of course, nothing we can do in BIOS.

asus support centre says this product can not fully support qx6700, so why this guy use it without any problems?

what should I do.........
