will the 7870 work with FX-6300 on a 500W PSU?

I dont think that cpu will bottleneck HD7870 so i recommend buying it. Or if you can stretch few bucks and buy R9 270x. Its about 15% better then HD7870.

so im going with 7870 right? I've streched all the way from 7790, I dont think I can stretch any more ... besides, even this one will satisfy all my needs, not to mention 270x
