How much of an increase in gaming will i notice with the 5850?

Bare in mind i mainly play company of heroes @ 1080p max dx9 at 60 fps.

Is the 9600gt OC to 800/2000/960 enough to power most games at max settings today? or is the 5850 a worthy upgrade?

Thanks

You will notice a big improvement.

Here is a graphics card hierarchy chart:

9600GT < 8800GT/9800GT ~ 4830 < 4850 ~ 5750 ~ 9800GTX/GTS250
< 4870 ~ 5770 ~ GTX260 < 4890 ~ GTX275 < GTX285 < 5850

A 5850 is about 5 tiers above a 9600GT. If you're going for that card, just make sure you have a cpu that won't be bottlenecked.

An OCed 9600GT can handle most newer games at medium-high resolutions.

Something along these lines (CPU:Core i7 920 @ 3.8 GHz):

It's actually a good CPU. You won't get the same numbers of course but the relative improvements should be close.

Your mileage will vary - but considering you can take the 5850 into your next system and that you might want to play other games - yeah the 5850 will be nice.

If its JUST for Company of Hero's you can save some $$ and not have to aggravate yourself trying to find a 5850 while they're in short supply like they are now.

Hmmm, you will hit a bottleneck with an E5200. I personally have a E5300 overclocked, and paired it with a 4830. I wouldn't go over a 4870 with my CPU though.

You can buy the 5850, but I also suggest you upgrade your CPU, preferably to a quad. (you can get a good quad cheap at Microcenter for $130, or get them used off ebay)

If you don't have the money to do both, then I suggest you get a $160 5770 instead, and then use the rest of your money for a cpu. (sell your E5200 on ebay or amazon, of course)

I live in New Zealand and there are quite a lot of 5800's here surprisingly but thanks.

Ive been reading that it is a waste of money to buy a core 2 quad with the i5s out. In New Zealand i would be looking at $316 for a Q8300 or $230 USD. where the i5 is $360.

Also are these prices way higher than in the USA because if so i may buy one there and ship it over.

That was totally unhelpful. And totally unrelated.. and totally WRONG (at least the last part).

Hmm kind of in the same situation here. I got a Palit 9600gt 512mb. Thinking about the 5770 ~200$ or 5850 ~300$.

My specs:

Intel E8400 Core2Duo 3ghz
OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz 2GBx2 Dual Channel
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Creative Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro
Benq FP241VW - 24" - Model Q24WS
ASUS P5K SE/EPU Socket 775 Intel P35
Palit nvidia 9600gt 512mb
Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10000RPM

1st priority I would like to max out l4d2 as much as possible on 1920x1200 since i game on a 24"
Then play bioshock 2 and aliens vs predator at that res

What would you do with these specs? Thanks!
