Hey Guys,

I was just wondering if the Asus 9600XT is worth $80-100. Are there any big differences between it and a 9600 pro?
Does it need to be connected to the power supply?

Thanks

I think 9600XT's are more like $200, not $80 - $100. I've used Sapphire cards, and they seem to be on par with 'built by ATI' cards. If you want technical support, you might consider ATI though. Also, I don't know if Sapphire includes Half Life 2 or not, but that would be a big selling point for me.

Right, thing is I can get one for around 80-100 bucks.. So that would be a good deal then... plus, they do come with the half-life 2

It sounds like a good deal. If it's used, I'd be real careful though. Don't buy a video card from ebay.

BTW, the 9600XT doesn't have to be plugged into the power supply. Also, there isn't a significant improvement over the 9600 Pro. In individual benchmarks I've seen, it ranges from no improvement at all to a 10% increase at best.

For that price it's a great deal. If it's a Sapphire you may even luck out and get good memory (the BBA boards seem to have lesser memory for a change).

Another advanatage of the XT's is their low-k core which usually overclocks better (well above the level that an R9600Pro would reach. They also have temperature monitoring diodes on board too, which is a nice feature.

Maybe I missed something but Half-Life 2 is not released yet, right? And last thing I heard (rumors) it will take a while too, before it will be released.

So what DO you get if you buy the 9600XT (or 9800XT for that matter)?

Just want to say that I bought the Built by ATI R9600XT and its great. Runs most games at the full resolution with everything on high including RTCW. Only game that doesnt work as well as the others is Halo, but that was to be expected. I play that at 1024x768 with vsync off. Just wanted to say if youre thinking about getting a 9600xt...... GET IT!!
