I'm building a new pc soon and don't know what would be best, the Asus 980 Ti Poseidon or a reference 980 Ti with an Ek waterblock. I will be overclocking and at some point upgrading to SLI.

Would the Ek block have better performance over the Poseidon? Also, I've never installed a GPU waterblock before, is it difficult?

You can use EK's cooling configurator to locate and narrow down a block for your card of choice. As per this link there aren't any full cover waterblocks available for your Poseidon.

Due to the way the cooling block on the Poseidon is designed it only has a length of copper tube running in a U pattern above the GPU and isn't in proper contact with the rest of the components. In essence its only an air cooled GPU with a small addition to watercooling. So it;d be best if you went with a full cover block on a reference designed GPU but you should be informed that you can pick up a full cover...

So it;d be best if you went with a full cover block on a reference designed GPU but you should be informed that you can pick up a full cover block for the Strix edition of 980Ti GPU's from Asus courtesy of EK.

Full cover blocks are designed by others outside of EK like Bitspower and Swiftech though EK would have a larger inventory to the 980Ti's floating in the market. If you have a lot of time, money and patience, you may want to knock on Diamond cooling's services(locate them via Facebook) and see if you can get a custom full cover block for your Poseidon or card of your choosing.

With respect to the application of a waterblock, it isn't rocket science though it's not very easy either. You'll only need some patience and understanding to go forward.
