I have a system I have been upgrading. It has an Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 motherboard, FX 6300 black edition, and gskill 2133 ram. 10-12-12-31. It all runs pretty good, even when turbo is on. I want either to see if I can get the processor to run at 4.1ghz, and get my ram timings to run at what is stated on them. When I set CPU to DOCP, I get an opportunity to set ram timing at 2133, other times it gives me numbers that are very different like 1728mhz, and 2033mhz. And it won't give me a chance to set timings to 10,12,12,31. It has it's own idea of 11,13,13,?. Probably no big difference, and now Speccy says Ram @ 1070, which is better that 600-800 I was getting before. Just that I am inexperienced at setting up OC parameters.
I also am considering going to a higher clocked CPU such as a 8350 or 8370? Any thoughts from people who recognize my issue (lack of knowledge), and whether a higher clocked CPU will really make me see any real world difference? I do not game on this system, but I do like system that are close to instant with surfing, etc.
Thank you for reading :) LT

So as I am reading that, and I appreciate the link, good stuff. I am lead to believe that the 6300 will only use 1866mhz RAM? I do have a brick wall in the room that that systems is in, so as I constantly try to increase the ram speed, I can lean over and bang my head against the brick wall, and more or less, get a similar result :) Even if Speccy is saying 1070mhz, which we know is halved in DDR, the processor can't, or won't utilize it? And is this true of all FX series AMD's. I do have an I5 recent build that I am on now, and was trying to build up an older system (the AMD), to see if I could get it to run as quickly as the i5. Apples to oranges I guess. Although the AMD is much better with a new motherboard and the change from an Athlon 630 to this fx-6300, just wondering if a 8350 or 8370 might bring her that much closer to my i5 experience? 6300 is returnable to Amazon for about 2 more weeks, but will another hundred towards a 8350 or 8370 bring much to the table if able to OC it?
