My laptop is Asus A451LN. The monitor of the laptop blinks whenever the battery reach around 75%. It used to be 40 then 50 then now 75% which is bad. If I plugged in external monitor it stays on like it should have.

My battery last around 4 hours according to windows's prediction. It used to be 6 hours which is fine it's been 2 years since I started using this.

The blinking get worst as the battery charges lowers and when the cpu usage goes high.
and around 30% it just turns off. I can see the screen if I look closely but the backlight turns off completely. The backlight returns normal after I plug in the laptop power adaptor.

1. Is this a known battery problem ?
2. Will changing the battery solves the problem ?

The battery is fairly priced if I bought online around (Rp650k == 46.5$) ( I am in Indonesia )

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- First is to change the Power Management settings in Nvidia Control Panel.
- Here's how: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3130/~/setting-power-management-mode-from-adaptive-to-maximum-performance
- If it will still not work proceed with doing a clean install of the graphics card driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Nvidia graphics driver.
- Next is to open Programs and Features then uninstall anything related to Nvidia.
- Once uninstalled, download and install the latest driver.
- Here's how: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
- Reboot the laptop once the latest driver has been installed.
- After the reboot do test it again and see if the same problem will persist or not.
- Do also set Nvidia as the default GPU.

I forgot info about my OS.
I am using Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 14.04
Both is having the same issue

The effect still happens even at boot. I never experience blinking at boot but I have experience backlight turning off at boot b/c of low battery
(So I think it's not driver related ?)

Hey sorry to bring it back again. So I bought the battery an the battery life improved like it used to be around 4-5 hours usage but the blinking strikes back .... at 50% it sometimes blinks again not as bad as the old but it still blinks omg what's possibly wrong with this laptop other than the battery because now I know the battery is good.

have you already tried to replace the mobo? if it still had the guarantee why not?
its funny because my friend had same issue, and after replacing the mobo at the service center the problem is gone. And after 2 months or more the laptop had a new problem, the touchpad is not working and while I want to look if the driver is fine it hang and until now it doesn't respond to anything
wkwkwk ashu sekali :D

It's 1 year passed the warranty and I dropped the laptop not so long ago there is a giant bent in the laptop and the speaker stopped working not so long after the blinking problem
definitely not worth replacing the motherboard..

Replacing the motherboard is definitely not a great solution if it's out of warranty better buy a new laptop and used this one as a file server or something
