Question ASUS A540L Laptop RAM compatibility ?

Hello guys,

I'm here to ask for your advice.

Recently I tried to upgrade the RAM on my ASUS A540L laptop.
After searching the web I found the following reference:

The ASUS A540L Laptop takes the DDR3L PC3L-12800 1600MHz Non-ECC SODIMM memory type, and comes installed with 4GB (Soldered) memory.
For that reason, I decided to purchase a RAM that I expected to be a compatible with my laptop considering the compatibility statement referenced above.

Timetec Hynix IC 8GB DDR3L 1600MHz PC3-12800 Unbuffered Non-ECC 1.35V CL11 2Rx8 Dual Rank 204 Pin SODIMM Ordinateur Portable Mémoire RAM Module Upgrade (8GB)

The issue is,, after installing the RAM , the Laptop freezes during the Windows' initial loading spinner.

Now my question is:
(1) Did I make a mistake in my RAM choice?
Or
(2) It's probably a RAM issue ?


(2) has happened to me in past, that's why I'm considering that possibility.

Hey there,

So although your existing ram may be 1600mhz, and the same with the new ones, that's not the whole story. The voltage and timings (in this case CL and 4 others) have to also match. If they do not match, then it's very likely they will not work together.

I'd suggest returning the ram you bought for a refund.

Do you known how can I check the existing RAM timings / voltage?
I think since this is a laptop, it has to be a 1.35V (don't even know if there are other voltages for laptops)

Hello guys,

Since I'm still struggling to upgrade my laptop's RAM, I'm back to get some adviced.
I returned my previous RAM and got a new one from corsair.

CMSO8GX3M1C1600C11 Value Select 8GB (1x8GB) DDR3 1600Mhz CL11

I generated a HWiNFO64 report to verify the RAM compatibility and everything seems ok.
Can't understand why my laptop's get's stucked in the initial windows 10 load spinner.

Please, any advices?
