I have the set up below with a Western Digital 120GB HD (WD1200JB). It's only ATA100, I thought it was ATA133. This system is not nearly as fast as I thought it would be, so I would like to get a Serial ATA drive to replace my Western Digital. I know it won't speed things up that much, but I'm sure I will see the difference.

I plan on taking out my WD HD and install the S-ATA HD, install Windows XP on it, make sure it works and boots blah blah blah, then put the WD HD back in to transfer all my files, then format it and sell it. My question is how will the mobo know which HD to boot from? I would want it to boot from the S-ATA HD. I never had experience with S-ATA HD / regular HD mixtures so I'm not sure.

Only the Maxtor makes ATA133 HD's. But this is meaningless and basically there's no difference in performance between the ATA100 and ATA133 drives as the fastest HD's won’t come anywhere close to their theoretical peaks. I even doubt your investment on a SATA HD would worth it. If speed is your concern, why not go for RAID-0 setup?
