Hi OK so I am looking to get a new Ryzen 3000 CPU...My motherboard is a ASUS TUF B450 plus gaming with bios update work with the 3000 series. To update the bios it says to install AMD Version 18.50.16.01 Chipset ok did that now how the heck can I tell if it is installed ? I looked in device manager and I saw nothing that said 18.50.16.01 anywhere ? I am ready to update the bios but want to check this new chipset install first.

I've seen AMD's Robert Hallock, in recent interviews, say the chipset drivers you'll need will come available concurrent with the Ryzen 3000 launch. Probably from the AMD web site first, then MFR's support pages as they clear them through whatever process they use.

Look at the chipset drivers available on the Asus page for your board. If in doubt, download and install the latest they have.

There's also a discussion started by 1usmus on reddit about Ryzen 3000 BIOS... apparently, you won't be able to get a proper BIOS for Ryzen 3000 (one with ComboPI 1.0.0.3AB) until after launch.

Makes for interesting read. If true, it explains a lot.

Hey, Count Mike...
What are the improvements for Ryzen? I have been holding off moving from 1809 to 1903 until the bugs get worked out, since it is a major upgrade. But I have been thinking of going back to Ryzen when the 3000's come out.
Something about job scheduling for cores/threads, spreading jobs over more cores but it helps. Balanced PP more suitable to Ryzen. In other words at least acknowledging Ryzen unique features, not only Intel.

What is ComboPi? Something to do with AGESA code/memory stability?
Not really sure what it means, if anything, beyond a code name for AGESA code sequences... SummitPI sequence was for Ryzen1000 processors, PinnaclePI sequence for Ryzen2000/1000 and ComboPI is for Ryzen3000/2000/1000 series processors. At least that's as I understand and I'm sure there's a lot more to it than that...like where do BristolRidge and Athlon APU's fit in?

It's a versioning sequence that starts over for each CPU release. You can't really get away with just saying AGESA 1.0.0.6 and expect everyone to know which you mean since there could be a ComboPI 1.0.0.6 and a PinnaclePI 1.0.0.6 which are very different things.
