Hello guys Like the title says My anti surge keeps triggering while I am watching YouTube video's. the first time it happened was like 2 months ago after it happened twice in one day I turned my pc of and cleaned it very well. 2 months passed and it happened again. then the next day again(mind you only once a day) then a few days went past without anything happening. Then again it triggered. and now it has triggered 4-5 times in an hour. And it isn't like I am demanding allot of power aka I am not playing any games while it is triggered I got a thermaltake 850 watt bronze PSU that I bought with my PC from IBUYPOWER in 2012. I have read allot on this forum about Anti-surge protection from Asus after being frustrated for like 1.5 hours I decided to turn it off, not without being scared off my system frying but so far my PC hasn't shutdown. I am writing this like 10 minutes after disabling the Asus anti-surge protection. I think if nothing happens I am gonna turn it back on tomorrow and if it triggers again I honestly don't know what to do then, Maybe buy a new PSU.

Hope anyone can help me in whatever way possible. thanks in advance

Oh okay, My specs are, I7 3770k, GPU Asus r9 280x direct CU2, MOBO: asus P8Z77-V LX. just a random 2tb Seagate drive. I think 600-650watt would be more then enough right? also fully modular would very nice if it isn't to much trouble :)

well there is your problem. IBUYPOWER makes up its profit margins by selling their pre built pcs with junk parts wherever they can get away with it. Most prebuilts do the same, this isn't an IBUYPOWER critique. As a result junk PSUs (a nonsexy part which has confusing measures of quality, and many competing brands) are pretty standard fair for pre built computers.

everything thermaltake makes is generally cheap junk, though some of their cases are ok (even if they usually steal the design from someone else first). That psu isn't an exception. Combined with the fact the psu is now 4yo (I typically advise people to replace psus 4yo or older regardless of the quality of the unit) and you have the basic problem here.

I would suggest you grab your new psu off this list; make sure it's a tier 1 or 2 unit.

Thanks for all the answers, but isn't it weird that Anti-surge triggers when I am browsing? doesn't matter I think I am gonna pick up the Corsair one. I live in the EU tho so I'll have to search for it hear, won't be hard to find. BTW what do you mean Corsair isn't good, my understanding is that Corsair makes solid products? also quick question, would 650 be enough for 2 GPU's in the future, just asking don't need 2 but for the slight chance in the future would it be possible? I am gonna get this one anyways so. thx again for all the help

i mean their line of psu arent reliable there are brands that have been recognized for psus as the best Evga was using superflower and has real awards as far as i know in psu making my experience with Corsair Psu isnt good since mine didnt even last 9 hours you can check here in other post that super flower is recommended as the best while i use corsair ram and always liked em i cant recommend their psu

Corsair doesn't make PSUs, they sell what they pey other companies to make for them. The Corsair RM650x is unbeatable, don't listen to davmazin.

Dazmavin, your 9-hour lasting PSU probably had a manufacturing fault. I find it silly that you take that one brief experience and use that as justification that all EVGA units are better than all Corsair units. Just silly. The RM650x is better than the EVGA 650 G2.

Okay so the PSU is coming in today, I"ll install it and give the final result, first time installing a PSU but it doesn't look that hard.
EDIT: hi me again, I have a question is it possible that Surge protection can get triggered by a PSU connector not being plugged in all the way? I found a connector like being 90 percent plugged in I don't really think that is the problem because it happend before I cleaned my system but would like to here you guys' take on it.
