Question Asus B650 Plus Wifi won't boot with PCIe card inserted ?

Hi folks,

I just put together a new PC but am confronted with the following problem:

When i insert my RME MADI FX PCIe card the PC won't boot.

If i press the power button, the PWR-LED flashes for an instant, the CPU fan briefly spins, then..........nothing.

To get the PC to boot again, i need to remove the PCIe card, unplug the power cable for quite a few seconds, replug & then the PC will boot.

Things i've tried but to no avail:

• Bios update
• Cables check
• Memory re-seat
• Different PCI-e slot.
• Tried the PCI-e card in another computer, it's working properly

I'm now at a loss for anything else to try.

My CPU is an AMD Ryzen 5 7600 3.8 ghz and my PSU is 500 watt.

One thing which occurred to me is that maybe the PSU is underpowered, and the inclusion of the PCI-e card pushes it over the edge and stops it booting.
But 500 watt for this system seems to me more than enough, and also that RME card isn't very power hungry compared to a GPU card or something (i'm just using the MOBOs onboard graphics).

I'm curious if any one has any suggestions before i rip the PC apart and return the MOBO for a different model?!

My CPU is an AMD Ryzen 5 7600 3.8 ghz and my PSU is 500 watt.
When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:

Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

I suspect the BIOS is failing to detect which Generation of PCI Express is being used by the card.

The RMI WADI EX web site quotes:-

"1-Lane PCI Express Endpoint device (no PCI Express to PCI Bridge), revision 1.1"

Check your BIOS and see if you can restrict the PCIe x1 slots to run at slower speeds. If the slots default to PCIe Gen 4 and the card is only PCIe Gen 1.1, there may be a clash. If your BIOS can be set to Gen.2 for the slot with the card, it might boot up.

Thanks, good suggestion..... i set all 4 PCI-e slots in the bios to Gen 2, but unfortunately the problem persists.

I was under the impression that PCI'e is always backwards compatible, so i guess in theory it should work?!

Windows 11 Home
AMD Ryzen 5 7600 3.8 ghz
Asus B650 Plus Wifi
Kingston FURY 32 GB DDR5-6000 Kit
SAMSUNG 990 PRO 1 TB SSD
Noctua NH-D15

Any other ideas?!
