ASUS BIOS not getting right RAM frequency

Hello Community!

For a while now my RAM has not been performing at the ordinary speed of 1600MHz but has been underclocked 🙁

This is because the ASUS UEFI BIOS has been getting the wrong frequency values, and they have been weird... numbers like 1439MHz or 23-something-something-MHz, but not 1600, or 800MHz.

What gives?

For some reason they don't use the JEDEC specs, I had this issue and entered speed and timings manually. Apparently this is normal on enthusiast boards. Perhaps a RAM expert will weigh in.

It used to get the correct frequency just fine. And it has no option to enter in the speed manually, as far as I can tell.

Hmm, interesting. I had to go to the advanced options (F7?) to do it. Have you checked your MB manual? I remember it not really jumping out at me how to do it.

Xtreme memory profile. It will force the motherboard to read the specs from the RAM module and set itself to match them. The memory will then run at its rated speed.

I don't think mine has that... I have the ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 mobo.

Many AMD mobos tie the CPU freq to the DRAM, so the DRAM runs as in sync with the CPU freq, try setting the DRAM manually to spec

I can only choose the frequency out of a few options. It would appear that changing the AI Tuner setting to DOCP, will allow me to have 1600MHz has an option for RAM.

Yep, DOCP should set it up for you, select the 1600 , save, exit and restart

Of course, on the day I finally decide to make this thread, (I've been putting it off for a while now) it fixes itself without me doing anything. All of the funny numbers have gone from the memory frequency drop down menu, and it has returned to the default value of 1333MHz.
