Hello,

Let me start by saying I am not nearly as tech-savvy as most users on this site seem, but I'm desperate for help. I have an Asus UX-31e that I've had no problems with until recently. Starting a couple of months ago, I started receiving Blue Screen errors. This error occurs only while the machine is in sleep mode. I have never experienced a random blue screen while on the machine. I have removed several of the Windows updates that the Microsoft site suggests might be causing this error. I have also run every system check possible with the exception of the Windows Memory Diagnostics test. Every time I try to run that particular diagnostics test, my laptop only gives a backlit black screen for hours on end with no progress. I am leaving the country for the entire summer in a week so I don't have time to return the laptop to Asus. Please help!

"ASUS ZENBOOK UX31E - ASUS Super Hybrid Engine II for 2-second resume and up to 2 weeks* standby time"
http://www.asus.com.au/Notebooks/Superior_Mobility/ASUS_ZENBOOK_UX31E

Netbooks, Notebooks, laptops don't particularly like updates through the Windows Auto Update system, turn off Auto updates then select CHOOSE which ones to install. Drivers for the motherboard should only be the ones from the manufacturer website, other updates for applications do still need to be read prior to install, though.

Disable Seep mode (Power Options) so that you need to manually enable Sleep mode rather than it going into the sleep mode state after a period of time has elapsed of idle time.

The hdd is 128gb, if you are close to it being full, that impacts greatly on waking from sleep mode, how much free space is on the hdd?

Hibernate takes up about 10% pf the total volume of the hdd.
There is a lot of conjecture as to whether you should actually use hibernate at all and not just shut down the portable pc.

Personally, I prefer to shut down if I'm not going to use the laptop for the next four hours or more, I don't use sleep mode either but that is purposefully accepted for when its not in use for less than 4 hours. Sometimes screen saver is suited for when not in use for less than an hour.

Shutting down coserves battery power but it then takes the full peak power to power on, adding to the excessive use of the components.
Sleep mode doesn't require the full peak power to wake but the temp storage of the data can cause issues with the hdd especially if you have some apps opened.

Either way, laptops don't last more than 4 years without having to replace either the ram or hdd, and there are not many people these days that don't upgrade to a better model within 4 years, usually within 3 years.

You can just right-click the C: drive > Properties for space volumes.

I have checked the free space on my C drive and it is approximately 75% in use. Should I compress the files to add space? I regularly run disk cleanup and disk defragment.

It seems that I mostly get the error (details listed below) when my system is very low on battery. I still have not been able to get memtest to download properly so ideas beyond that would be great.

DO NOT compress your files!

It's a 0x9F DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE bug check, the 3rd parameter indicates that "A device object has been blocking an IRP for too long a time.", please upload the C:\Windows\Minidump\052113-8314-01.dmp file to a publicly accessible location like SkyDrive.

Copy the dump file to your Desktop, right-click it and select Send to > Compressed folder and upload the resulting zip file.
