I have a 9 month old ASUS Crosshair vi Hero motherboard and the ethernet port stopped working after a nearby lightning strike. I'm assuming the lightning was the culprit since my Arris Surfboard wifi/router also went at the same time. Interestingly, my rented Comcast Xfinity cable box and television are both acting normal. I managed to get back online tonight after ordering a USB 3.0 to ethernet adapter.
Should I just assume the lightning was the issue and I'm just out of luck... or is there a possibility ASUS would cover this under their 3 year warranty? I have my desktop wired through a decent surge protector, but the coax TV cable wasn't running through it. I used to run the TV cable through a lightning filter but removed it when I had Direct TV. They claimed the filter would mess up the signal. When I went with Comcast Xfinity, I never added the lightning filter back onto the TV cable.
