Question asus crosshair viii hero won't start

Haven't built a PC in years and years and was doing so with my son for Xmas. Stumped as to what to do at this point. First board we got wouldn't even light up except for the red flashing light when the 8 pin power connector was removed. Bought a new board at BestBuy today, brought it home and the RGB lights go on and Start button lights up, but nothing happens when hitting the start button. Tried to isolate to just the CPU, 1 RAM slot and nothing. Tried a different CPU thinking my Ryzen 5 5600x was the issue and needed to update the bios but nothing. I get no error codes on the board either. Unfortunately don't have a pc speaker to hear for beeps.

Any suggestions?

Could the power supply light up the board but still not boot the computer? Trying to figure out how to rule out each of these components. I guess it's possibly I got two bad boards from two different places?
