Hi. I am new to this board so take pity on me. I have decided on getting a Pentium 1 GHz system. I have already approached a computer dealer and I am in the midst of finalising the specs for my comp. The only part I am undecided on is the motherboard. For the price I am paying, the dealer is giving me 2 options to choose from; the Asus CUV4X-C and the I-Will VX133L. Which m/board do you guys think is better? I have tried looking for review on the I-Will board but to no avail. My guess is it's new so nobody has done any review on it yet. If any of you guys can give me advice, please do so.. Thanks a bundle..

They are both pretty similar, since I think they are both based on the VIA Apollo Pro 133A chipset.
But, truthfully, I would see if the dealer would give you an Asus CUSL2 or some other 815E chipset based motherboard for a little more money. They are much better motherboards (faster and more stable) than the VIA Apollo Pro ones.

I don't know anything about computers... but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night...

If it's a single cpu socket 370 platform you seek, then rbertino is right, the Intel i815E and EP chipsets are rock solid. I'd definitely go with the ASUS CUSL2-C, or the Abit SA6 if you can get that. Either one is a very good choice.

"This was no boating accident"

The last two guys are right. The problems with VIA shitsets are so severe that most experienced builders would much rather go with an Intel chipset. In fact, the only reason I built my system with a PIII instead of a T-Bird was because I had problems with VIA chipsets.

Cast not thine pearls before the swine

Thanks for the advice guys.. But let's say you absolutely have to choose between the 2, which would you go for? I know there are probably better mainboards out there.. but right now, these are the only ones I can afford and the only ones this dealer carries..

Please make up my mind for me..
