Always nice to have more tweaking headspace... These sound like a worthwhile upgrade to thet board designs. In another couple of years when my SLI system no longer cuts it, I bet these will be industry standard...

because "they are more likely to overheat less"... how about just, "less likely to overheat". Must get paid by the word.

I'm not sure they would be worth the price premium i bet Asus is going to be putting on them, but they will eventually be industry standard like jeraldjunk said. Then everyone can afford them.

"...these capacitors are not only low in cost, but offer an extremely low equivalent series resistance due to the source material."
If that is true, then they should become standard soon enough.

Did I cream my pants? Nope, almost.

Aren't people already reaching 1000GHz on the 4890? What can these babes be overclocked to without budget and sensibility in mind?
What disadvantages do these polymer caps have?
Can I have one?

He said 3.3 times the standard overclocking margin. So if you were able to acheive a 50 MHz overclock before, it would now be a ~175 MHz OC.

Usually, polymer caps replace electrolytic, no ceramic caps. Ceramic capacitor's capacity range is lower than 10 uf (and usually much lower than that). SMPS in either video cards or MoBo use several caps in the order of 1000 uf, usually electrolytic with low ESR. But electrolytic have a very limited lifetime (even worse considering the low quality components that are used). Solid polymer capacitors have a MTTF of about 600.000 hours @ 65C, so they will last as long as the board.

yeah, the guys from Asus has a very bad math
850Mhz X 3.3 = 2805 Mhz not 1000Mhz! Also, we already seen "cheap" brands HD4890 to exceed 1000Mhz!
I don't know why they putting such numbers like 3.3 times overclock and 108% and they still not offering something new. This seems like an advertize that will "explain" why their cards are UNreasonably priced.
What I'm trying to say is we already seen GTX285 at 720Mhz and HD4890 at 1000+Mhz.
Q: What the hell are the point of this capacitors?
A: To give asus a reason to rob us.

This article says ML caps are cheaper to use, then why aren't they saying it's going to be used for all video cards toreduce costs across the board? Why is it that only the GTX 285 is mentioned?

This reads like an advertisement. It might be nice for you to put these claims to the test, rather than dumbly repeating what Asus marketing department sent you.

if the plastic melts, you'll really see some hot burnin' graphics cards!

Your reading comprehension is sub-zero. Which part of the 3.3 times the standard overclock MARGINS didn't you understand?

yeah, I realyzed that later.
but anyway, OCing 4890 to 1000Mhz is not impresive, nor OCing GTX285 to 720Mhz.
My point was how this "new" caps are better than the "old" ones, because we already seen better OC without these "new" caps.

My guess is they're talking about releasing parts from the factory with these overclocks, home users might be able to push them even further.
