I recently assembled a computer and got an Asus DRW-24B1ST DVD writer for it. The first time I booted the computer the drive would not open but the green light on the front of the drive would come on, flash, and then turn off. I then swapped out the SATA cable for the drive and then it worked no problem. For the past while I have used the drive only a handful of times and it seemed to work ok. However I am needing to install some new software from a disc and I am getting the same issue of the drive not opening. I know the SATA cable is good, and the drive seems to be getting power since the light is flashing. I swapped the SATA port that the drive is hooked up to but that had no effect. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Oh I also attempted to update the firmware with files from the ASUS site, but when I attempt to install them an error comes up with no device match. BIOS and Windows 7 Pro are detecting the drive as well.
Thanks again for any help.
