Asus DVD Drive not running discs

Recently my Asus DVD Drive stopped running discs, Ive tried a few things, such as deleting some registry files, and deleting the drivers and reinstalling them, but details as far as whats not working.
When I put a CD, DVD, anything into the drive the light turns on for a moment, like its trying to run it, then goes off. If i go into my files and such its under my devices and drivers, but when i click it i get the message saying "Please insert a disk into the CD drive".
Ive tried with multiple discs. I dont have a blu ray drive but i borrowed one and its having the exact same result.

i had a similiar issue and couldn't for the hell o f it figure what it was - then a couple of days later i had the case covers off and by accident found the sata data cable loose - go figure - on it's own it had worked loose

it might not be the cause but it's worth making sure it's not
