Okay so I've posted about this before and thought it was solved, however it's started again so I'm back. Basically I bought this network adapter and it worked fine for maybe a week, then suddenly I start having major connectivity issues at random intervals.

For example, this morning when I turned my computer on it would try to connect > connected > disconnected at very fast intervals until I change the USB port and restart. After I do that it usually stays fine for 10mins ~ an hour. Sometimes it just won't see any networks at all, sometimes it will see every network except mine.

I read that there's a firmware issue with this product, but I'm not sure what to do about that since I'm a networking newb. Also I'm running without the driver/utility. Because if I dare to install them the connection gets even more unstable. Any advice?

I'm a bit confused about how you are connecting things, that ASUS is a wireless extender, not a network adapter. Are you having issues connecting to the ASUS with a computer? Did you run a driver update for the network card on the computer?

Download the firmware file here http://www.asus.com/us/Networking/EAN66/HelpDesk_Download/, the latest date one.
Manual is here http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/wireless/EA-N66/E8661_EA_N66_Manual.pdf?_ga=1.152755901.505188869.1419955810, look under Administration on how to do the update.
